The beer was served in plastic glasses, the floor was beer soaked, the venue itself was the wrong end of town. It could of been the rock garden itself, a perfect setting for a reunion.
Ian Jackson the original dj set the scene playing old favourites from the rock gardens heyday as the regulars arrived from distant and far flung corners of the globe. Literally. Los Angeles, Wales, London, Edinburgh, Hull, Halifax, York and Bradford among the many places that 'old gardeners' travelled from.
The venue itself held 180 and some thought that would be too many, who would be interested in going to a reunion of an old punk rock nightclub? Well it seems everyone who ever went there wanted to go and the ticket allocation could of been sold twice over.
The bands never let anyone down, they punched out old favourites as though they had never been away. Poignantly No Way played their set wearing t shirts bearing the image of the well loved Matey.
Old friendships were rekindled and memories some good and some bad were shared. Fallen and departed friends were sadly missed and reminded us all that we must make the most of what we have.
As the night drew to a close and we all trooped off back to our homes and the daily grind of life we all looked back on what were great days. Heres to the next reunion ..... bring it on!
